The brain science of better blogging
Vol. III, Issue 20
May 20, 2008
A smart and savvy tip from Patsi and Denise:
I have to tell you I'm in love with mornings! I know that makes me weird; I love getting up at 4 or 5 a.m. before anyone else, having my cup of coffee and writing. It's quiet (except for Huey and Dewey who want to be fed...) and my right brain gets buzzing with creative juice.
Don't write me off as a California whacko just yet. Keep reading so you'll understand the brain science behind my weirdness ... you may even want to try this too. Okay, well maybe not at 4 a.m! In fact, you could try this tip in the evening or late at night just as well.
The trick is to get your left brain to shut down so you can plug into your right brain's creative powers. Your left brain is active when you're thinking about all the things you need to do, and you're being organized and logical.
Turn it off, and let your creative self romp around unfettered and see how well your writing goes. It doesn't matter what time you do this, but it does matter that you create a blog writing habit using your most creative brain strengths. Pick a time when your left brain is less likely to bother you with incessant details and to-do lists.
